New Testing Turnaround Time Dashboard
This week, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) posted a new dashboard reporting how long California patients are waiting for COVID-19 test results. The state has worked with laboratories to reduce testing turnaround times in recent weeks to help curb the spread of the virus. During the week of August 23 to August 29, the average time patients waited for test results was 1.3 days. During this same time period, 66 percent of patients received test results in 1 day and 88 percent received them within two days. The testing turnaround time dashboard (PDF) is updated weekly.
Protect Your Health: Avoid Outdoor Activity Due to Poor Air Quality
Smoke and ash from regional wildfires continues to affect Marin County. Today, air quality reached the “purple” or “very unhealthy” level on the Air Quality Index. Outdoor COVID-19 test sites were closed this afternoon due to air quality health concerns. A Spare the Air Alert has been issued for the Bay Area through Monday, September 14, and we expect unhealthy air quality again through the weekend.
Smoke from wildfires can affect health. The most common symptoms are eye and throat irritation, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Those with health problems, especially heart or respiratory conditions, should take extra caution.
Follow these precautions to protect your health:
- Minimize outdoor activities. Postpone/Reschedule intense outdoor cardio activities.
- Stay indoors with windows and doors closed as much as possible.
- Do not run fans that bring smoky outdoor air inside.
- Run your air-conditioner only if it does not bring smoke in from the outdoors.
- Avoid activities that create more indoor and outdoor air pollution, such as frying foods, sweeping, vacuuming, and using gas-powered appliances.
- Consider leaving the area until smoke conditions improve if you experience symptoms related to smoke exposure.
- Check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be sensitive to poor air quality and who spend much of their time alone.

Woodward Fire Update
To date, the Woodward Fire at Point Reyes National Seashore has burned 4,910 acres and is 95% contained. No evacuation warnings/orders are in place. 124 personnel are working on the fire and are focused on holding the perimeter and mop-up work, as well as looking for hotspots along the perimeter line.

Reporting Businesses in Violation of Public Health Orders
Those wishing to report a public health order violation by a business can submit their concerns online. Please include as much detail as possible regarding the perceived health order violation. Photos and other documentation welcome, too. Know that state protocols for reopening change frequently, so consult the Marin Recovers Status list for information on business openings and guidelines and the current health order for information on face covering requirements, shelter-in-place and more. Keep in mind that the goal of the order and related enforcement ordinance is to educate and keep our community safe. While violations of the public health order are misdemeanors, issuing citations or making arrests continues to remain a measure of last resort for local law enforcement. It will only be considered after all education and voluntary compliance efforts have failed.
Be a role model and follow the order while encouraging others to do the same. If you see a business out of compliance, you can speak directly to the owner, and offer the link or a copy of the COVID-19 Site-Specific Protection Plan as well as information about the Marin Recovers website. We’re all in this together and we all need to do our part.
