Marin Recovers Gym Update

As the weather changes, we are all anxious to get back to the gym for some indoor exercise, but there are a few things you need to know before putting your trail shoes away for the winter. Marin’s status on the Blueprint for a Safer Economy means Gyms and Fitness Studios can operate indoors at maximum 10% capacity. And please remember to wear your mask indoors at all times.

Examples of gyms and fitness studio-type businesses include:

  • Athletic Club Fitness Centers
  • Country Clubs with Indoor Fitness Facilities
  • Cross Fit & High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Facilities
  • Dance Studios
  • Pilates Studios
  • Spin / Cycling Studio
  • Yoga Studios
  • Other indoor aerobic activities (e.g., Kickboxing, Zumba, Step, etc)

Unfortunately, the following businesses and fitness operations are still prohibited from operating and should remain closed:

  • Saunas
  • Steam Rooms

In Other News… (Non-COVID Updates)

While the following is not related to COVID, it is news from Marin County's Emergency Operations Center that we thought you should know about.

Participate in the Great Shake Out: COVID-19 Style.

Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills, a worldwide earthquake safety movement, are involving 17.1 million people throughout 2020 (and counting). Most participate in ShakeOut by registering to practice “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” and many do much more. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants are adapting their ShakeOut activities through video-conferencing, choosing staggered or alternative dates, and following local health and safety guidelines (see ShakeOut.org/covid19).

There is still time to join ShakeOut this year: register to participate on any day that works for you at ShakeOut.org. Most take action on International ShakeOut Day each third Thursday of October, this year being October 15.  [Continue reading news release]
