Accessibility Reminder for Content Editors
Digital Accessibility Tips
- Color Contrast for text. Use defaults and you'll be fine.
- Color Contrast for graphics, icons.
- Descriptive links. Don't make "click here" a link, instead make the sentence that describes the result of clicking it the link.
- Alt Text for images. Double click the image and add a meaningful description of the image or it's purpose in the Alternative Text field.
- Use sans serif, legible fonts, minimal italics and bold. Don't manually set fonts in the source view, be careful when pasting from Word.
- Do not use fully justified text. Left justification is best for readability.
- Visible focus – can you tell where you are on the page?
- Correct reading order. Lay out the content in a meaningful order.
- Logical heading structure. Headings found in the Format menu of the editor should only be used for content headings, not for text styling.
- Use list structures. Use the bulleted and numbered list tools in the editor to create lists.
- Use column and/or row headings for data tables. These tools are available in the table tool of the editor.
- Tables should only be used for content that needs to be presented within a table, never for layout.
