National Public Health Week April 1-7
National Public Health Week offers us a time to pause, reflect, and appreciate how we work together to make our communities stronger. The Marin County Board of Supervisors recognized the contributions of our local Public Health Division with a resolution this week, and in turn we would like to thank the countless providers, partners, health workers, volunteers, stakeholders, and community members who devote their time and efforts to improve the health of our County. Please join us in supporting one another in our words and actions, to create a community where all can live a long and healthy life.
OD Free Marin
Join OD Free Marin Wednesday, April 10th for our annual community forum via Zoom! This year’s virtual forum, “Preventing Overdose Together,” will focus on strategies for collaboration, resource sharing, and community action to address the ongoing challenge of opioid overdose in Marin County. Please register here to hear from our partners and to share best practices, resources for support, and opportunities to engage with our coalition to make a difference. Together, we are working to prevent overdose and improve the health and wellbeing of our entire community.
Oral Health
Since Fall 2023, the Marin County Local Oral Health Program has partnered with the Marin County Medical Reserve Corps (MMRC), Marin Community Clinics, Marin City Health and Wellness Center, and Coastal Health Alliance to conduct dental screenings and oral health education at local elementary schools. These visual dental screenings are designed to assess the current state of children's dental health and, most importantly, link the students to dental care services to address any urgent or emergency dental needs. 1,134 students have received dental screenings in this school year alone, and of those students, 85 received immediate care-coordination to address their urgent and emergency findings. Check out our Facebook page to see this work in action!
Pertussis Outbreak Progress
Pertussis cases in Marin are declining after a period of elevated transmission December through March. Effective identification of cases and prompt antibiotic administration and isolation of suspect cases has been critical to control. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant and “think pertussis”, as well as report all suspected or confirmed cases to Marin County Public Health. Please view the 3/22 Public Health Advisory for more information and resources.
