Headed to the World Cup? Get Your Shots Before Kickoff
Traveling to a World Cup match, concert, or large event? Protect yourself, your family, and your community by keeping all your vaccines up to date. Illnesses like flu, COVID‑19, and measles can spread rapidly in crowds. Many adults (born after 1957) haven’t received two MMR doses and lack full immunity. Two doses provide about 97% protection. Check your vaccine record, boost your immunity, and have fun!
Strengthening Nutrition Security in Marin
About 10% of Marin residents, nearly 26,000 people, are food insecure. CalFresh and WIC don’t just help families; they also strengthen our local economy. Every $1 in CalFresh returns about $1.54 to Marin, and December 2025 benefits alone generated nearly $5 million in local activity. HR 1 cuts threaten this safety net and the stability it brings to neighbors and businesses. If you or someone you know may qualify, check BenefitsCal or California WIC to stay current. WIC is also expanding healthier options like yogurt, whole grains, tofu, and more fresh produce. This helps families stretch budgets while keeping kids healthy and ready to learn.
Help Protect Marin Agriculture
Marin County Agricultural inspectors recently identified an invasive insect, the glassy-winged sharpshooter, on grapevine plants sold at the Novato Costco. This pest can seriously damage grapevines and other plants and spread harmful plant diseases. Residents who recently purchased leafed-out grapevine plants from the Novato Costco are asked not to move or dispose of the plants and to contact the Marin County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office at 415-473-7888 for guidance. Early reporting and community partnership are critical to protecting local agriculture and gardens.
Recognizing EMS Week and Marin’s Emergency Response Teams
In May, Marin County recognized National EMS Week and celebrated the many people who make emergency medical care possible every day. A recent Survivors Celebration highlighted the teamwork behind lifesaving care—from dispatchers and EMTs to firefighters, nurses, physicians, hospital teams, educators, and community partners.
Emergency medical services depend on a strong system that often works behind the scenes through training, communications, preparedness, coordination, and continuous improvement. While much of this work may not always be visible, it is essential to improving outcomes and protecting our community during its most critical moments. We thank all those who contribute to Marin’s EMS system for their dedication, compassion, and service.
Summer Travel Reminder: Prevent Mosquito-Borne Illness
As summer travel increases, residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue. Dengue cases are rising globally, and travelers can bring infections home after returning from affected areas. Use EPA-registered insect repellent, wear long sleeves when possible, and continue taking precautions for several weeks after travel to avoid being bitten by local mosquitoes that could spread infection to others.
Celebrate, Be Proud and Protected
Pride Month is a great time to celebrate community and stay informed about your health. Marin County offers free, easy ways to get tested for HIV and other STIs, including at‑home HIV test kits from TakeMeHome.org. Many STIs have no symptoms, so regular testing helps protect you and your partners. Condoms and PrEP add strong protection and are widely available locally. Mpox vaccination is also available so you can celebrate Pride healthy, confident, and protected.
