COVID Levels Rise Rapidly in Marin

Local wastewater surveillance has detected a rapid rise in SARS-CoV-2 levels in the first two weeks of June, signifying increased COVID-19 transmission in our community. Local COVID-19 hospitalization rates have also increased to a three-month high. This pattern is being seen across the region. The Marin County COVID Level has been upgraded from Low to Medium, and if this pattern is sustained could transition to High next week. As graduations, summer gatherings and travel ramp up, the most important measure is to be up to date with vaccinations. More vulnerable older residents should consider face covering when out in public indoor spaces.

Mushroom Microdosing Product Alert

This week, the CDC issued an alert after 10 people in 8 states were hospitalized after ingesting Diamond Shruumz mushroom chocolate or gummy microdosing products. Marin County Environmental Health Services has informed local vendors to pull the product from local shelves. No illnesses associated with these products have been reported in Marin. This is a reminder of significant gaps in quality control processes in the supplement industry, especially related to psychoactive substances.

Suicide Prevention Dashboard Launched

Marin County Public Health, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, and the Marin County Suicide Prevention Collaborative have joined forces to share data in a new public-facing dashboard regarding suicide in our community. The goal is to elevate understanding, stimulate community dialogue, and drive collective action toward the goal of zero suicide deaths in our community.

Fruit and Veggie Fest

Healthy eating is a cornerstone of wellbeing and longevity. Marin Public Health’s Nutrition Wellness Program is joining community partners and local food markets to bring the annual Fruit and Veggie Fest on June 29. The free, family-friendly event will be held at the Marin County Health and Wellness Campus, at 3240 Kerner Blvd in the Canal area of San Rafael, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are invited to join the party, sample healthy foods, learn about food assistance programs, and win prizes.
