COVID-19 Summer Surge Update

The daily average number of people with COVID-19 in Marin County hospitals-- MarinHealth Medical Center, Novato Community Hospital, and Kaiser San Rafael -- has doubled over the past month.. Hospitalization rates describe the severity and healthcare burden associated with community transmission. Nearly all of those hospitalized locally are over age 65. Seven Marin residents have died from COVID-19 in July, more than double the normal rate. Marin Public Health recommends that older residents wear a mask in indoor public settings until the summer surge is resolved.

Prepare for Smoke

The 2024 wildfire season is worsening and is impacting communities across the nation. 111 large active wildfires are currently being managed and have burned 1,820,955 acres, primarily in the northwest. Western wildfires are creating  smoky skies as far as New England. The Park Fire, about 180 miles north of Marin, is near the location of the 2018 Camp Fire, which led to 12 straight days with poor air quality in Marin. While current local air quality is good, this can change as winds shift. Residents can track air quality at Air Now and should take protective measures if air quality worsens. On smoky days, for those who cannot avoid being outdoors, wearing a well-fitted N-95 type mask is one simple and effective measure.

Heart Health & Student Health Fair in Marin City

The Marin County Cooperation Team (MCCT), formed during the pandemic to guide the Southern Marin response, has broadened their focus to include heart health and student well-being. On Thursday, August 8th from 3:00-7:00 pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City, MCCT will host a free health event. Supported by Kaiser San Rafael and Marin Community Clinics, the event includes blood pressure checks, sports clearances, vaccinations, eye exams, hearing tests, cooking demos, fitness instruction and more. The fair includes a live DJ, bounce house, smoothie blender bike, and exciting giveaways. For event details and to RSVP visit Heart & Student Health Day!
