Video:  Dr. Willis’ Farewell Message

After 12 years serving Marin as public health officer, Dr. Matt Willis is turning the page to a new chapter. In this farewell message he describes Marin’s “pandemic superpower” and outlines his next steps.

Free COVID Test Kits

When winter virus season hits, it’s sometimes hard to know what’s causing those respiratory virus symptoms. Having a rapid COVID test kit is helpful. Residents can now order up to four free COVID tests kits and have them mailed to their home. The familiar nasal swab tests can detect current variants.  Test kits can be ordered at www.COVIDtests.gov. Shipments will begin next week.

California’s Ban on Intoxicating Hemp Products

On September 24, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California’s emergency regulations to ban THC-containing hemp products went into effect.  Last week, the County of Marin Board of Supervisors and the Public Health Officer issued a letter of support for this action. This establishes a pathway for hemp products that contain THC to be eventually regulated like cannabis, including placing age limits on purchase. This protects young people from the harmful effects of THC.  Hemp food, beverage, and dietary products that contain detectable THC must now be removed from the retail marketplace. This ruling does not impact legal access to THC in the cannabis market.
