Clearing Up Confusion:  Vaccine Safety Update

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently changed wording on its vaccine safety webpage. The new language suggests there is not enough evidence to say, “vaccines do not cause autism.” This is confusing because decades of strong, peer-reviewed research show no link between vaccines and autism. Serious neurologic reactions to vaccines are very rare, and while families who experience them are deeply impacted, the protection vaccines provide far outweighs the risks. Vaccines remain safe, effective, and one of the best ways to protect children and our community. Marin County Public Health will continue to share clear, evidence-based information. Visit Let’s Get Real about Vaccines website to learn more about vaccine safety.

Food on Every Table in Marin

Earlier this month, the County of Marin activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) after SNAP/CalFresh benefits were delayed. Working with community partners, the County quickly helped deliver food to individuals and families who needed support. The Marin Community Foundation also launched the Food on Every Table Fund, which provided direct assistance and will help shape a countywide plan to improve nutrition security. Everyone in our community can play a part in supporting food security. If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulty accessing food, programs like CalFresh, WIC, schools and local community organizations are here to help.

Marin CRTs: Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Marin County’s Community Resiliency Teams (CRT) are doing important work to keep our communities safe and healthy. In the 2024–2025 year, CRTs connected with the community more than 150,000 times and held 9 health fairs that served over 1,600 people. These events offered services like health check-ups, vaccines, mammograms, vision care, and more. CRTs also distributed thousands of naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips to help prevent overdoses. By bringing together local organizations, schools, clinics, and neighbors across Marin, CRTs build readiness for emergencies, improve access to care, and help support the most vulnerable residents.  Learn more about the work of our CRTs at the Community Resiliency Team’s website

World AIDS Day Community Gathering Tonight!

Join us on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5:30–7:00 PM at Vivalon (999 3rd St., San Rafael) for a World AIDS Day gathering to honor those we’ve lost, celebrate survivors, and reflect on the progress that continues to move us toward a healthier, more hopeful future. More than 40 years into the HIV epidemic, breakthroughs like effective treatment, U=U, and PrEP have transformed what’s possible. The event will feature speakers from across our community, including Jane Spahr and Karyn Kleinman from the Marin LGBTQ+ Center, Marcelino Alcorta from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and Dr. Melanie Thompson from Marin County Public Health.  All are welcome to attend.
