Marin County COVID-19 Status Update for February 10, 2022 Governor Signs $1.9 Billion COVID Package to Bolster State’s Ongoing Emergency Response; Recording of Yesterday’s Public Health Update for the School Community; and updated local COVID-19 data.

The Marin County COVID-19 Status Update is published weekdays and as needed to share important news and resources related to the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep the local economy running. We remain here for you.  

 

Governor Signs $1.9 Billion COVID Package to Bolster State’s Ongoing Emergency Response 

Today, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he has signed a $1.9 billion measure to meet California’s immediate COVID-19 response needs, especially in some of California’s hardest hit communities.  The funds will be used as follows:  

  • $806 Million to Bolster Testing: Expand hours and capacity of test sites, including the LHI testing site at Marin Health & Wellness Campus in San Rafael; Distribute millions of antigen tests to schools and community clinics.  
  • $400 Million to Get More Californians Vaccinated & Boosted, Combat Misinformation: Continue the “Vaccinate all 58” campaign, conduct door-to-door canvassing and phone banking, support in-home vaccination programs, and provide free transportation to vaccination appointments.  
  • $486 Million to Support Our Frontline Workers and Health Care Systems: Provide added personnel resources for health care systems. 
  • $141 Million to Maintain State Response Operations: Staffing and technology support at California Department of Public Health.  
  • $100 Million to Support Mutual Aid, Bolster Contact Tracing Efforts, Procure Personal Protective Equipment: Continue statewide contact tracing activities, procure PPE, provide aid to support local governments.    

This comes after Governor Newsom signed legislation to extend COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave for workers, and provide $6.1 billion in tax relief, tax credits and direct grants for small businesses hit hard by the pandemic.
