FDA Postpones Discussion of Vaccine Age Eligibility Expansion

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Advisory Committee has postponed a meeting originally scheduled for February 15 to review Pfizer-BioNTech's application for emergency use authorization of their COVID-19 vaccine in children 6 months through 4 years of age. The decision to reschedule stemmed from new data findings recently submitted by Pfizer in relation to ongoing clinical trials of their vaccine. The Committee wanted to allow for more time to evaluate the additional information, so the meeting will be pushed back to a date that is yet to be confirmed.

While we wait for the pending FDA’s emergency use authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for our youngest population, there are ways we can continue to keep them protected.

  • Make sure all eligible members of your household and caregivers are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations
  • Practice social distancing
  • Wear a well-fitted mask in indoor public spaces or in crowded outdoor environments where social distancing isn’t possible
  • Get tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms
