Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Record on Your Phone
Rather than carrying your actual COVID-19 vaccine card or saving a photo of it on your smartphone phone, the My Vaccine Record portal allows you to download a digital version instead. This avoids potential loss or damage of the card and a possible blurry snapshot. In places where proof of vaccination is required, a digital copy makes life a lot easier. In QR code form, this version verifies your vaccine record is official and issued by the state.
The portal obtains records from the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) and, by entering your personal information, you can access your proof of vaccination in a secure manner. Information entered remains confidential.
Accessing your digital vaccine record requires little time. Upon entering the My Vaccine Record portal, simply enter the required information:
- Your name
- Date of birth
- Mobile phone or email
Afterward, create a 4-digit PIN. You will then receive a message with a link to either your phone or email, depending on which you opted to enter beforehand. Click the link, re-enter your PIN, then you’ll have access to the QR code that will serve as your proof of vaccination. By saving it in your phone’s camera roll, downloading it to your computer for a future transfer to your mobile device, or storing it in another app, it can be on hand whenever needed.
Whenever proof of vaccination is requested, simply present the QR code to be scanned. The code doesn’t require a QR reader.
California residents who face issues accessing their vaccination records are advised to contact their local provider or may troubleshoot here.
Discussion with Dr. Rhea Boyd and Friends
On August 26, 2021, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) hosted a Facebook Live discussion between Dr. Rhea Boyd, Regina Wilson (Executive Director of California Black Media), Kamie Crawford (Television Host), and Teala Dunn (Actress). The goal of the virtual gathering was to provide answers to public concerns surrounding COVID-19 vaccines and to offer more information about how the vaccines work. Topics such as whether vaccines affect fertility, receiving the vaccine during pregnancy, and overall vaccine safety were primary talking points. Common misconceptions regarding COVID-19 vaccines were also addressed.
