Marin’s Indoor Face Covering Mandate Update

After satisfying criteria tied to COVID-19 transmission, hospitalization rates and vaccination progress, Marin County Public Health has lifted the local indoor face covering mandate, which required everyone to wear face coverings in indoor public places, regardless of vaccination status.

What does this mean? Marin will now revert to California Department of Public Health (CDPH) masking guidance which requires those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated to mask in all indoor public settings. CDPH masking guidance also requires everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask in the following indoor settings:

Public transit
Hospitals
Long-term care facilities
Homeless shelters
Indoors in K-12 schools, childcare, and other youth settings

Masks are not required outdoors but are strongly recommended in crowded environments. Everyone is strongly encouraged to also wear masks indoors at private gatherings where vaccination status cannot be confirmed. In addition, some local businesses may choose to continue requiring masks for all patrons, plus other Bay Area Counties still have a masking mandate in effect. If in doubt, be prepared and bring a mask.

Please join us this Wednesday as local health experts address your frequently asked questions regarding future COVID-19 vaccinations for 5 to 11-year-olds. This presentation will be recorded, and live Spanish translation will be available.

Vaccination Opportunities in Marin

Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots are now available at all Marin County Public Health vaccine clinics. Third doses for immunocompromised residents are also available.

There are numerous free COVID-19 vaccination opportunities taking place in Marin County for those wishing to receive a booster, third dose, or to complete their initial vaccination series. Advance online appointments are strongly encouraged. All clinics are available to anyone 12 & older. Our community has done a remarkable job at reducing the spread of COVID-19, thanks to those who have gotten fully vaccinated. We appreciate you doing your part.

Local pharmacies like CVS, RiteAid, and others offer same-day vaccine appointments.
Marin County Public Health has developed an online form for requesting a no-cost visit from the mobile vaccination team. This form was designed to make it even easier for all residents to be fully vaccinated.
Its intended use is for:
Businesses can request pop-up vaccination clinics at the workplace to vaccinate employees.
Homebound individuals and their loved ones can request a visit to the home for vaccination.
Hospitals and healthcare providers can make a home vaccination request on behalf of their patients.
Long-term care facilities can request on-site mobile vaccination units for staff and residents.
