New International Travel Testing Requirements

Are you flying back to the United States during the holidays or visiting from abroad? Starting today, December 6, 2021, the United States will be imposing stricter requirements for all travelers who are entering the country. Both Foreign nationals and US residents must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within one day of departure in order to board their flight. This rule applies to both unvaccinated and fully vaccinated travelers. Travelers may be exempt from taking a test if they supply documentation indicating they had recovered from COVID-19 within 90 days of their flight.

Previously, foreign national air travelers needed to present proof of a negative COVID-19 taken within 3-5 days of departure and unvaccinated travelers needed to provide documentation of a negative test within one day of flying.

This travel restriction comes as a response to the high volume of travelers during the holiday season and growing concern surrounding the new Omicron variant.

Visit the CDC’s International Travel page for more information.
