Visit our Data & Surveillance webpage to view interactive graphs for confirmed COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Data analysis is available by age range, gender, race and geographic region. In addition, you can track the total number of local hospital visits due to respiratory illness -like activity, which provides situational awareness and could be an early indicator of potential hospital surge in Marin.

We’ve launched Marin County Indicators for Assessing Progress on Containing COVID-19. This webpage provides data related to indicators that are being tracked by Health Officers across the Bay Area to measure progress in containing COVID-19 and assess to what extent we can continue to loosen the shelter in place order. View a recent explanation of the dashboard from Dr. Matt Willis.

Parking restrictions to loosen at some rec areas

Starting tomorrow, May 18, 2020 those who have been sheltering in place will be allowed to drive a vehicle to many local city, town and County operated parks and trailheads, park nearby, and enjoy a hike, just like pre-pandemic times.

Marin’s Public Health Officer has drafted a new Parks closure and parking restrictions order that supersedes the previous order issued April 29. The new order allows for the loosening of restrictions on motorized access to recreational areas in all local jurisdictions. Towns and cities will be permitted to allow, limit, or prohibit motorized access as they deem appropriate during the COVID-19 emergency.

Residents are strongly encouraged to verify the status of local parks and any remaining restrictions with their local jurisdictions. While some parks may be open to motorized access, certain portions of park facilities with high-touch equipment or that encourage gathering – including playgrounds, gym equipment, climbing walls, benches, picnic areas, dog parks, pools and barbeque areas – will remain closed.

There will be no loosening of access at some locations that tend to draw larger crowds from across the Bay Area, creating conditions where visitors cannot feasibly comply with social distancing requirements. Facilities that remain closed to motorized access, except for those with state-issued disabled vehicle placards on display, are:

  • Point Reyes National Seashore
  • Golden Gate National Recreation Area (including Muir Woods National Monument)
  • Mount Tamalpais State Park
  • Tomales Bay State Park
  • Samuel P Taylor State Park
  • Chicken Ranch Beach (along Tomales Bay)
  • Miller Park (along Tomales Bay)
  • White House Pool Park in Point Reyes Station
  • Bolinas Lagoon Open Space Preserve (including Bolinas County Park)
  • all Marin Municipal Water District lands
  • all beaches or inlets along the Pacific Ocean.

Shelter-In-Place: New Order Effective May 18

A Stay at Home (also known as Shelter-In-Place) Order is in place for Marin County until further notice. The new order, which takes effect May 17th, 2020 at 11:59 PM, will ease some additional restrictions while practices to strengthen containment of COVID-19 are put into place.

All construction activities, certain businesses that operate primarily outdoors, and some outdoor activities continue to be allowed with the new Order. In addition, the new Order allows for curbside pickup for retail stores and retail supply chain businesses to open. The measured easing of some restrictions is designed to set the stage for a gradual return of activity and while preventing rapid, exponential growth of new COVID-19 cases that could overwhelm hospitals.

This next phase reflects regional progress, thanks to the collective action Bay Area residents have taken since mid-March in response to Health Officer shelter-in-place orders.

Parks Closure Order Amended

In addition to the Stay at Home Order, Marin's Public Health Officer has amended the order closing parks, campgrounds and open spaces to motorized access. Some locations will now be open to motorized access, with some remaining closed. Golf sites and Tennis Clubs are now allowed to operate under strict requirements (see best practices below).
